For the second year in a row, Ohio State missed qualifying to the Men's NCAA Championships team final. The top-ranked team placed fourth in the first of two qualifying sessions Thursday as the championships began at Penn State University in University Park, Pa.

The Buckeyes tallied 215.250 and missed the three-team cut by 0.10, trailing Stanford (216.350), Illinois (216.300) and Michigan (215.350). Iowa (209.500) and Army (194.800) were fifth and sixth.

While Stanford and Michigan, ranked 4th and 5th, respectively, were expected to advance, 8th-ranked Illinois was not. But top Illini gymnast Wesley Haagensen led the all-around standings after the first session.

In the second session, Penn State earned the highest team total of the day with 218.900. Two-time defending champion Oklahoma (218.600) and Minnesota (216.900) earned finals berths. California (216.650) outscored all the teams in Session I, but did not advance to the final. Nebraska (209.100) and Temple (205.400) rounded out Session II.

The team and all-around final will be held at 7 p.m. EST. Live scoring will be available on the Penn State Web site.
