FIG President Bruno Grandi criticized the Chinese gymnastics team and said there was "strong circumstantial evidence" of age falsification at the 2008 Olympic Games.  Yang Yilin (China) In an interview with German gymnastics magazine "Leon," Grandi said the members of the gold medal-winnning Chinese team in Beijing lacked aesthetic elegance. "The Chinese gymnasts were robots," he said. "From a geometrical point of view the moves were very well done, but compare with the way [Nastia] Liukin performs a single movement with artistry. You can see how she continues to move through to the end point. The other is a perfect geometric figure. But a Code [of Points] will never be able to completely reflect aesthetic moment." In Beijing, the Chinese women took its first ever Olympic gold medal in the team competition. He Kexin won the gold on uneven bars, and Yang Yilin won the bronze medal in the all-around and on uneven bars. Veteran Cheng Fei won bronze medals on vault and balance beam. Grandi said it was conceivable that China had cheated in Beijing, alluding to the accusations that He and Yang were under the minimum age of 16. "There was strong circumstantial evidence, certainly, but these investigations are not my job," said Grandi, in his fourth term as president of the International Gymnastics Federation. "I'm not the police or Interpol. If I find that there was cheating, then I can act." After the Olympics concluded, the International Olympic Committee called for an independent investigation into China's six female artistic gymnasts and sought documentation of their birthdates. The IOC cleared the Chinese team after finding no evidence of age falsification. "I had everything sent to the IOC and the IOC has carried out its investigations and the figures were the same," Grandi said. "The IOC gave us its findings, and we checked them and there was nothing. When people on the Internet find fake documents, you need to legally prove that these are fake, and that's not my job. I have to respect the documents that the Chinese government gives me. ridiculous I can't figure out why the old evil guy dare say this. He knows nothing about Asian culture. Maybe He is a frog in an East European's well. I think nastia has got elegant bonuses in Beijing. If Grandi want classical elegance, go to Rhythmic Gymnastics. |

about cheating It's common that white people's upgrowth is earlier than the Asian. I don't know if the Chinese girls are underage. But you can see Japanese girls are even smaller~~~then, how about semenova? does she looks like 16?? I think you guys feel a little green because of the glory around the Chinese girls. By the way, Nastia looks so young in 2005 and 2006. I think FIG should investigate that too~~~ |

I, honestly, believe that it was rather disrespectful towards the Chinese and the gymnast the way this 'age' issue was handled especially during and after the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Sure, I thought the gymnast did look fairly young but who is anyone to judge someone's age by their appearrance? A good example is my mom who just turned 50, has five children, and people doubt her age. Another example, I am 22 and I am still being mistaken to be much younger disregarding my race or color. The point is, this age issue was uncalled for and it is too bad it overshadowed what the Chinese gymnasts accomplished during the Beijing Olympics. I do not think the Japanese team looked smaller or younger, I think Semyenova looks 16 (or it's at least believable)..." When the ages of some of the Chinese gymnast were questioned, noone looked at the Japanese team or even at Semyenova. I wonder if, hypothethically of course, a Japanese gymnast or Semyenova won an event title in the Beijing Olympics, would THEIR ages be questioned to? Odd, isn't? In addition, have you even looked at the Japanese team at all or are you just trying to prove your point? By all means, please explain to everyone once and for all: How do the Japanese team and Semyenova LOOK 16? Because if you ask me, A PERSON'S APPEARRANCE DOES NOT PROVE AGE. If that is the case then I must really be 16 even though I'm really 22, right? Let's make this even more interesting! What about the Chinese's women gymnastics team leader, Cheng Fei, in 2004 Sydney Olympics? Did anyone question her age then since she looks just as young as some of her teammates in the Beijing Olympics. Wait, what if she won an event title in 2004? Would it be a different story then? Why do I bring that up? Which gymnast were unfairly scrutinized as underaged? He Kexin and Yang Yilin, am I correct? So that leaves out 4 of the other Chinese gymnast: Cheng Fei, Li Shanshan, Jiang Yuyuan, and Deng Linlin. To me, the Chinese gymnast who looked the youngest was Deng Linlin. Why was Deng Linlin in the middle of the midst along with her teammates, He Kexin and Yang Yilin? Well, let's see. Deng Linlin played a major part in the team finals when she nailed her dismount (after replacing, Jiang Yuyuan in Vault Event). Now, He Kexin and Yang Yilin both participated in other events apart from the team finals and both qualified in the Uneven Bars final. I figure that most of us here have seen the Uneven Bars final and we know the outcome disregarding the tie-breaker rule which I never questioned then and now. He Kexin - gold ; Nastia Liukin - silver ; Yang Yilin - bronze Something IS fishy. I was following the controversy and what I found interesting was it fueled the day of the UB finals event and He Kexin AND Yang Yilin both well-deserved a title that same day. Why weren't Chinese gymnast, Deng Linlin, age ever questioned when she obviously looked much younger than He Kexin and Yang Yilin? I do wonder...... Yes, she [Deng Linlin] was the one with the 'missing tooth' but it's funny how ignorant and judgemental people can be. She isn't missing a teeth in the first place when her other teeth is hiding between two of her other teeth even when it DOES appear that she is 'missing' a tooth. So again, I ask.. DOES APPEARRANCE PROVE AGE? YOU be the judge.! |

CORRECTIONS TO MY PREVIOIUS POST - The 2004 Olympic games was held in Athens and not Sydney (2000 Olympic Games). - Russia's gymnast, Ksenia Semenova, is the correct name spelling. - I meant: Yes, she [Deng Linlin] was the one with the 'missing tooth' but it's funny how ignorant and judgemental people can be. She isn't missing a tooth in the first place when her 'missing' tooth is hiding between two of her other teeth. |

... here, I want to be critical about the all-around result. nastia's ub has an ugly dismount and a huge step,but she still got more than 8.9 in the B score, while Yang Yilin and Semenova having more beautiful body position and dismount only got less than 0.1 advantage. On the balance beam, Nastia got more than 9.4, but we all see her crossed legs and slow connection before the wolf jump(if that was a connection, I don't think she could got the connective bonus), what's more, her legs are too low. Again, Semenova has a much faster connection and also nails her dismount. She only got 9.225. Floor exercise, with her leg separation, crossed legs and lower SV, she got the same value as Shawn. I really can't understand why Nastia always gain such high B scores, maybe as the president said, she is with artistry. |
