U.S. Takes Five Golds at Pan American Championships

Argentinan medalists Sebastián Melchiori, Ayelén Tarabini and Federico Molinari pose with the national flag in Rosario.
Samanthan Shapiro (U.S.) won two golds in Rosario.

The U.S. women swept the titles at the Pan American Individual Championships, held Friday through Sunday in Rosario, Argentina.

American Samantha Shapiro (uneven bars, balance beam) and Venezuela's Jose Luis Fuentes (pommel horse, parallel bars) were the most successful gymnasts of the competition with two titles each.

Corrie Lothrop won women's vault place third on the other three events. Olivia Courtney won women's floor exercise.

Peru's Mario Berrios won men's floor exercise, and University of Michigan recruit Daniel Corral (Mexico) won vault.

Danell Leyva won high bar to give the U.S. its fifth gold medal of the competition.
