(2 votes, average 5.00 out of 5)

World champion Russia won the rhythmic group title Sunday at the Beijing University of Technology Gymnasium.

Second in qualification, the Russians corrected their mistakes to take the top score with both exercises: five ropes and three hoops/two clubs. It is Russia's third straight Olympic group title, and second rhythmic gold of the Games. On Saturday, Yevgenia Kanayeva won the individual all-around gold medal.

While Russia's gold was expected, host nation China delivered a historic performance for the silver. Ninth at the 2007 Worlds, the Chinese group in Beijing finished less than three tenths behind Russia to win the nation's first world or Olympic medal in rhythmic gymnastics.

Belarus, the top team in qualification, won the bronze over Italy. 2004 bronze medalist Bulgaria finished fifth.

Results: Group Final
