American Alyssa Baumann (WOGA) has withdrawn from the upcoming U.S. Olympic Trials because of a serious elbow injury she sustained while training on uneven bars on Thursday.

According to a statement from USAG, Baumann has torn several ligaments and muscles in her elbow.

"I'm very sad to be missing the Olympic Trials," said Baumann, who turned 18 in May. "It has always been a dream of mine to compete for a spot on the Olympic team. I will be watching and supporting the girls at both Trials and the Olympics. Thank you for everyone's support."

Baumann trains at WOGA in Plano, Texas, under coaches Laurent Landi and Cecile Canqueteau-Landi. She was a member of the gold medal-winning U.S. team at the 2014 World Championships and finished seventh all-around at the recent U.S. championships in St. Louis. She has committed to the University of Florida this fall.

The U.S. women's Olympic Trials take place July 8-10 in San Jose, Calif.
