Following a two-day journey, 12 Brazilian gymnasts arrived in Tokyo on Friday for two weeks of training for the upcoming Olympics in Beijing, China.

The 10-member women's training squad began workouts Saturday at the Tsukahara Center in Tokyo. Vying for the six spots on the team are Ana Claudia Silva, Daiane dos Santos, Daniele Hypólito, Ethiene Franco, Jade Barbosa, Juliana Santos, Khiuani Dias, Laís Souza, Bruna Leal and Milena Miranda.

"They will be doing a little shorter but more dynamic training, to show how it will be in the Olympics," women's head coach Oleg Ostapenko said.

The Brazilian women finished a record fifth at the 2007 World Championships in Stuttgart, where Barbosa tied for the all-around bronze. At the Brazilian Championships in June, Silva defeated Barbosa to win the all-around title.

Diego Hypólito, Brazil's sole male qualifier to Beijing, and alternate Arthur Zanetti are training at Juntendo University. Hypólito, the two-time world champion on floor exercise, is a contender for the gold in Beijing. Brazil has never won an Olympic medal in gymnastics.

The Brazilian team will depart for Beijing on Aug. 1.
