Imogen Cairns has moved onto the British Olympic team after the withdrawal of Laura Jones, British Gymnastics announced Thursday.

Jones, eighth at British Championships in June in Guildford, was unable to recover from an ongoing back injury. She will be replaced by Cairns, who originally was named first alternate despite finishing fourth all-around and first on vault and floor exercise in Guildford.

The British team of Cairns, Becky Downie, Marissa King, Beth Tweddle, Hannah Whelan and Rebecca Wing, first alternate Kayleigh Cooke and second alternate Hannah Clowes leave Wednesday to a pre-Olympic training camp in Macau.

"It is desperately sad that Laura has had to be withdrawn as she was such a strong member of the team," said Matthew Greenwood, British Gymnastics performance director. "Having worked so hard and being selected to the team this must be a bitter blow just a few days before departure to Macau. We wish her all the very best for a swift recovery."

Cairns, 19, was the gold medalist on vault at the 2006 Commonwealth Games, but missed the 2006 and 2007 World Championships because of injuries. The British team finished sixth in qualifying and seventh in the final at the 2007 World Championships in Stuttgart.
