Future site of the 2016 Olympic Park in Rio de Janeiro, where preparations for the Olympics have been slammed by an IOC vice president.

After his sixth trip to Rio de Janeiro to check on the organization for next Olympic Games, International Olympic Committee Vice President John Coates wasted no words in criticizing what he saw. On Tuesday he said the lags in the preparation were "the worst I have experienced."

Coates said the organization is bogged down by bureaucracy and complicated by organization for this year's FIFA World Cup.

"We have become very concerned. They are not ready in many, many ways," Coates said. "And this is against a city that's got social issues that also have to be addressed; a country that's also trying to deal with the FIFA World Cup coming up in a few months."

However, Coates stressed that there is no "Plan B" for another country to host the Olympics at this point and that the IOC plans to intervene to make sure the 2016 Olympics are a success.
