Russia's Maria Kharenkova and Britain's Brinn Bevan won the all-around titles Thursday at the 2013 European Youth Olympic Festival in Utrecht, Netherlands.

Each gymnast added a second gold in Utrecht after leading their respective teams to first place earlier in the week.

Kharenkova tied Germany's Kim Janas with 54.950, but Janas was bumped to silver using a tie-breaker. Top qualifier Tyesha Mattis finished just .1 behind the pair to take the bronze.

Kharenkova had some large wobbles on beam but still had 14.000 on the event, bested only by fifth-place teammate Maria Bondareva, who scored 14.400. Kharenkova had the top mark of the day on floor exercise, where she was precise with an Arabian double front; 1 1/2 to double tuck, triple twist and double pike.

The powerful Mattis impressed with a double-twisting Yurchenko vault and stuck double-double mount on floor exercise.

"It really feels good," she said. "I've worked really hard for this so I'm happy that I've made it. The team silver really gave me confidence and after yesterday's result I knew I was capable of doing it."

Ellie Downie, younger sister of 2008 British Olympian Becky Downie, finished a close fourth.

Bevan and teammate Nile Wilson once again finished 1-2 as they had in qualification. Russian junior champion Ivan Stretovich won the bronze.

"It feels really good. Before this event started I never expected to win a medal in the individual all-around and it feels amazing to be on the podium together with Nile. I went clean and at first I was hoping for a top-three position, or maybe fourth, but to win here is great."

The British junior men have dominated continental competition since 2008. In 2012, Bevan and Wilson were members of the squad that won Great Britain's third consecutive team title at the Junior Europeans.

Bevan improved his score from the team competition, impressing junior team coach Barry Collie.

"It feels great; we’ve really put the pressure on the boys," Collie said. "We really wanted them to win the gold and silver medals. Brinn’s performance was outstanding. He has been through some hard times in his life and it’s great to see him winning gold here. He scored 85 points, which is just awesome, especially for a junior competition."

Competition concludes Friday with the apparatus finals.
