First-day leader John Orzoco (U.S. Olympic Training Center) claimed victory Saturday evening at the U.S. Winter Cup Challenge in Las Vegas.
 John Orozco (USA)Orozco improved upon his Thursday score by 2 full points, scoring 91.350 Saturday evening. In the combined rankings, the Bronx native topped world floor exercise finalist Steven Legendre (Oklahoma) by more than 5 points, 180.700-175.200.
Orozco took second on pommel horse behind Glen Ishino (Berkeley) and won parallel bars and high bar (tie with Danell Leyva of Universal).
"I'm glad I got to start off like this in a new year," Orozco said. "Hopefully, I can keep it up throughout the whole year up to the Olympic Trials."
Legendre moved up from fourth to second with strong scores on floor exercise and vault, winning both events. Ohio State's Brandon Wynn took third all-around and first on still rings.
Leyva, the reigning world champion on parallel bars, missed that event (13.250) to place fourth. Cypress' Chris Brooks, just .1 behind Orozco on Thursday, fell to fifth.
2008 national champion David Sender (Illinois) finished sixth all-around, second on vault and third on still rings.
The annual competition serves as a reranking event for the U.S. men's national team. Ishino, Sender, Paul Ruggeri (Illinois), Sam Mikulak (Michigan), Jesse Silverstein (U.S. Gymnastics Developmental Center), Adrian de los Angeles (Michigan) and C.J. Maestas (Illinois) were named to the U.S. national team, joining the seven members of the bronze-medal team from the 2011 Worlds: Brooks, Legendre, Leyva, Orozco, Jake Dalton, Jonathan Horton and Alexander Naddour.
