Larisa Iordache (Romania) and Courtney Tulloch (Great Britain) captured the all-around gold medals Thursday at the European Youth Olympic Festival, a multisport event taking place this week in Trabzon, Turkey.

Larisa Iordache (Romania) and Courtney Tulloch (Great Britain) captured the all-around gold medals Thursday at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Trabzon, Turkey.

Iordache earned the top scores of the day on uneven bars (14.250), balance beam (15.150) and floor exercise (14.600). She ended on vault with a simple Yurchenko full (13.550), but still grabbed the women's all-around gold by more than 2 full points.

The triumph in Trabzon was the third straight win for Iordache this summer, following victories at the Gym-Festival of Trnava (59.500) and a dual meet against Great Britain (58.300) in June. In April, she scored 58.800 to lead the Alliance Dijon Gym 21 club to first place at the French championships.

Iordache, who will be eligible to compete at the 2012 Olympic Games, is the first Romanian to win the all-around title at the European Youth Olympic Festival. With the exception of Italian Vanessa Ferrari's victory in 2005, Russia and Ukraine have shared every title since gymnastics began at the biennial event in 1993.

Italy's Erika Fasana scored 55.450 to win the silver over teammate Elisa Meneghini (54.800). Fasana, Meneghini and teammate Francesa Deagostini powered Italy to an upset victory over Romania on Wednesday.

Russia's Yevgenia Shelgunova was fourth, .05 out of the bronze. Both Shelgunova and Meneghini were born in 1997 and will be eligible for senior competition in 2013.

Tulloch, the top qualifier after Tuesday's team competition, picked up the men's all-around gold medal. Tulloch, 15, scored 82.400 to top 17-year-old Romanian Daniel Radeanu (81.650) and 16-year-old Belarusian Vasily Mikhalitsyn (81.350).

Tulloch, who turns 16 in October, is coached by Romanian-born Ionut Trandaburu at Pegasus Gymnastics Club. Tulloch helped England win a team bronze at the 2010 World School Games.

Competition concludes Friday in Trazbon with the apparatus finals.
