Daria Yelizarova (Uzbekistan) and Viktoria Kuzmina (Russia) won the all-around titles Saturday at the Svetlana Invitational in Houston, Texas. ![]() The competition is organized by and named for three-time Olympian Svetlana Boginskaya of Belarus. Boginskaya, the 1989 world all-around champion, has lived in Texas since 1993. Competing under Level 10 scoring, Yelizarova captured the senior title with 38.850. Yelizarova, who won the 2006 Junior European all-around while competing for Russia, has represented Uzbekistan since last fall. Rachel Abrams, who trains at Texas club Rowland-Ballard Gymnastics, finished second ahead of 2008 Olympian Luiza Galiulina. Oksana Chusovitina, Boginskaya's teammate at the 1991 Worlds and 1992 Olympic Games, competed two events for Germany. Chusovitina, who turns 36 in June, is also the head coach for Uzbekistan. Russian juniors Viktoria Kuzmina and Daria Spiridonova went 1-2 in the junior all-around. Both gymnasts were born in 1998. 2011 Svetlana Invitational

... Chusovitina is an ANIMAL!!!! I can't believe she is still competing, let alone competing WELL. I just wish she would get more recognition for her phenomenal longevity. Wow. |
